Summary: "TAMPA BURN -- It Burns Slowly"

I am a big Randy Wayne White and Doc Ford fan. This book, the 11th, I think, is not one of the best.

--DISCLAIMER-- Read the Doc Ford books in order, they are so much better that way.

Our hero, Doc Ford, marine biologist and master of covert ops, is thrown into action when his son (with Pilar) is kidnapped. Believe me, Prax, the villan is a really bad, bad guy. Ford with his pal, Tomlinson's help, goes after his son.
The story dragged in spots for me and I was disappointed with Doc's judgement errors. Come on, he is a very smart guy!
Reading Doc Ford though is always fun and I recommend the book.

Summary: "Good mystery"

I buy Randy Wayne White novels because he is a Florida author and Florida settings are in many of his books. They make good gifts since we live in Florida. I keep a couple of them on the bedside tables in my guest rooms too. I thought this was a well written story.

Summary: "Randy Wayne White Hooked Me With This One (Pun Intended)"

As a resident of the Tampa Bay area, I picked this book up because of its title. Tampa is a big city, but the area is rarely depicted in fiction and/or movies, thus I was willing to take the chance solely on its title.

It is now about five weeks since I read Tampa Burn, and since then I have read seven more of White's "Doc Ford" novels, with several more in queue. I haven't read them in order, but I am hooked nonetheless.

Have you ever stumbled upon an author, perhaps never having heard of him/her and just been swept away? And to love that first work that you read, only to find that the author has a dozen or more books already waiting for you? I know that it's a bit overdramatic, but I find this to be one of the rare and truly great pleasures in life.

So why not take that chance on a Randy Wayne White title? I'm not a betting man, but it would be tempting to wager that you'll be coming back for more.

I read non-fiction more than I do fiction. For that reason, when I pick up a work of fiction, I often read the first five pages or so, trying to get a feel for the author's writing style and whether or not it works for me. White hooked me from the very first page, with dialogue and vivid descriptions of the villain. I utterly despised this man by, oh, page four.

Finally, I went to high school in Gibsonton, the curious little Florida town that ultimately becomes center stage. I can tell you that the descriptions of the area, the places and even some of the people/carnival performers described are real. As imaginative as White can be, no one could make this place up!

Please give White a try. If it turns out that his work is not your thing, what have you lost? On the other hand, if you do like (love) it, you'll have many (many) great reading sessions ahead. I've yet to read any of his work that I have not enjoyed, and there is much of it at the ready.

Summary: "Another great Doc Ford novel"

Great book!! I fully recommend it. If you haven't read any of RWW's books before, don't start with this one. Start from the beginning. There are alot of allusions to past excursions and former subjects in this book. It's full of action, a little romance, and some humor thrown in for a well-rounded, easy to read novel. Enjoy!!
